Friday Favorites – Handmade Ornament

A small group of five “Internet” friends decided last year we would make and exchange handmade ornaments with each other. It was as much fun to make the ornaments as it was to receive them. Everyone’s ornament was so creative and it was a great joy to get them in the mail and see the uniqueness of each ornament.

For this year’s ornament, I saw these cute star-shaped molds and there were 4 of them and so I decided to make my ornament based on them. I painted the inside bottom of them and after it dried I poured a little resin down inside along with some words I cut out of old books and sprinkled some glass glitter around. I chose words like: silver moonlight, a little woods, into the forest, the clear twilight. silver moonlight

After this dried overnight,  I drilled a hole on the top and bottom and used a silver craft wire to make a loop for the holder and then dug through my embellishments to find something to keep it from coming through the hole, like a jingle bell, a star, a bling, etc. I found some other goodies to hang from the bottom. I used some tiny light bulbs on two and glued some words to the light bulb. one wish and the way.DSC_0103I added an empty watch face with a silhouette inside and another a little jewelry bit I found with buttons added. cameo

I hot glued some sparkly cording around the outside, added a bird or button or star. Lastly, I added little trees and snow. I signed and dated the back, pleased with my project. the clear twilight into the forest ornaments

I wrapped them up and we all know it’s in the wrapping. I mailed them Wednesday. Can’t wait to hear from my friends from New Hampshire to California and in between. I think they will love them!wrapping wrapping

I lost myself in crafting these. It was 2:30 before I knew it and I had crafted through lunch and was happily humming along to the Christmas channel. I love homemade Christmas.

It was slightly more challenging/entertaining when Annie was awake.  annie

These favorites are some things I spotted on Etsy that are homemade. Hope you enjoy it and find some time yourself to make some homemade things.

  2. Wonderful ornaments!! ..and I know the wrapping was a gift as well–so beautifully done. (I still have mine that you wrapped my purchases in!) Would love to be a part of your ornament exchange next year! XO! Frankie

  3. Oh Katey!!!!!!!!!!!! I jumped around my livingroom so happy to open your box and see your beautiful love filled ornament. I found the perfect branch on my Christmas Tree for it and it is happily dangling to the music. Love you!
