My friend Philippa found this perfect tiny nest and I oohed over how well-built it was and the little shell pieces still inside. It wasn’t attached to the tree very well but was deeply placed. I brought it home. I examined it closely. You can see several pieces of hair sticking out of the nest. It’s very strong and has deep sides. A good momma bird made this.
I’ve been admiring another good mother bird lately too. I feel a bit guilty sharing them now to you instead of 6 weeks ago when I first found out about them. It’s an eagle cam. The babies hatched January 1 and 3. They are quite big now but the mother and father eagles are both so attentive to their hatchlings. I watched them quite a bit during my shoulder recovering and am amazed at this majestic bird. I especially love watching feeding time. The mom would eat with the babies and had a different style entirely than the dad. He had already eaten when he brings food so he would feed each in turn. Patiently waiting for them to take the food regardless of the attempts, even nudging the baby to get his attention if his attention was elsewhere. They will be learning to fly soon so tune in. They are not the most attractive things now, still trying to grow into those big yellow talons. They have to wait 5 years to get their beautiful white heads. Bless them. Watch them.
Have a great week.
Love, Katey
